The Past, Present and Future of Indian Cricket - Technology Rise

Cricket though not our national game; is worshipped by many. It is larger than life. In a country like India, Cricket is played and watched with a lot of enthusiasm. In the past few years, Cricket has come a long way. Many things regarding the game have changed. From the way it is played to the latest technology.

The Past, Present and Future of Indian Cricket - Technology Rise

New technology introduced has made the work very easy. Take for instance the cameras being used on the ground. Previously there were no cameras for checking whether the player was out or not, or whether it was a no ball, etc. The decision would solely depend on the judgement of the umpire. The umpire’s decision was the last decision. As there was no proof for the judgement, many judgements’ in the past were debated. Though there used to be clarification regarding the same, but that couldn’t be justified.

Today, with the invention of spider camera used in cricket, things have become a lot easier. The spider camera helps to capture the picture or movement of the object in various angles. It serves as a proof for the decision provided. The bowler bowling, the ball being a no ball or a leg by, the batsman hitting the ball, being run out, etc. takes place so quickly that at times it is manually difficult to monitor and give the right decision. With the help of spider cams, it has become easy for the umpire to take a second decision if he is unsure about anything. This has brought down the cases of debatable judgements’.

Another thing that plays an important role is the stump cameras. There is a small camera hidden inside the stumps. With the help of this camera we can view the players in a different angle. Also, within the stumps there is a microphone present which makes the conversation of the players’ audible thus deterring them from using foul language during the game.
